Your First Visit at Quality Dentistry

What to Expect When You Come In

Walking into a new dental office can bring a few questions. How long will the appointment take? Will you need X-rays? What happens if the dentist finds something? If you haven’t been to the dentist in a while, you may simply be wondering where to begin.

At Quality Dentistry, your first visit gives us a chance to get to know both you and your oral health.

Some patients come in for a comprehensive new-patient examination. Others contact us because a tooth suddenly hurts or another dental problem needs prompt attention. Either way, we start with what brought you through the door and take the time to understand what you need.

Before We Look at Your Teeth

Your medical and dental history gives us useful information before the examination begins.

We will review your health history, previous dental treatment, medications, and any concerns you currently have. This is also a good time to tell us about past dental experiences or anything that makes appointments difficult for you.

If you feel nervous about dental treatment, let us know. Our goal is to make the visit feel comfortable and judgment-free, especially if it has been a while since your last appointment.

You also do not need to know exactly what is wrong before you arrive. If all you can tell us is that a tooth feels strange when you chew or that something has become sensitive, that is enough to start the conversation.

We can investigate from there.

A Thorough Look at Your Oral Health

Your first comprehensive examination is meant to give us a clear picture of your current oral health, rather than focusing on just one tooth.

Your dentist may evaluate your teeth and gums for signs of decay or gum disease, examine existing fillings, crowns, and other restorations, and check the tissues of your mouth as part of an oral cancer screening.

Diagnostic records may include digital X-rays, photographs, and digital impressions when appropriate. These tools can provide information that may not be visible during a standard clinical examination.

We may also include a smile design evaluation when appropriate, particularly if cosmetic concerns are part of the reason for your visit.

The information we collect helps us understand where your oral health stands today and what, if anything, deserves attention.

If You Are Visiting Because Something Hurts

If You Are Visiting Because Something Hurts

You may come to us because of severe tooth pain, swelling, a broken tooth, a lost restoration, or another problem that needs prompt attention. In that case, we address the immediate concern first.

We will evaluate the affected area and determine what may be causing your symptoms. Once we understand the problem, we can explain what we can do to make you more comfortable and whether you need additional treatment.

An emergency appointment may look different from a comprehensive new-patient examination because we need to address the immediate problem first. We can plan a more complete evaluation afterward.

Understanding What We Find

Dental terminology can make a straightforward problem sound unnecessarily complicated.

We use simple terms to keep the conversation clear and straightforward.

After reviewing your examination and diagnostic records, your dentist will explain what we found, point out any areas that may need attention, and discuss appropriate treatment options.

Sometimes there may be more than one reasonable way to address a concern. When that happens, we can talk through the differences so you understand your options.

Quality Dentistry takes a conservative approach to treatment. Our goal is not to recommend dentistry simply because it can be done. We want you to understand why we recommend treatment and what makes sense for your oral health before deciding how to move forward.

What If You Need Several Treatments?

If it has been a long time since your last dental visit, you may discover that more than one area needs attention.

That does not necessarily mean everything has to happen at once.

We can often organize your treatment by urgency and your individual needs. Problems causing pain, infection, or significant damage may need to be addressed first, while other treatment can be planned over time.

For more complex cases, we also look at the bigger picture rather than treating each tooth as an isolated problem. Your bite, existing dental work, tooth structure, gums, and long-term goals may all play a role in developing an appropriate treatment plan.

Our goal is to help you understand that plan without making the process feel overwhelming.

Insurance, Financing, and Payment Information

The financial side of dental treatment deserves clear explanations too.

Quality Dentistry works with PPO and HMO dental insurance plans. Because benefits vary from one plan to another, our team can help you understand how your coverage may apply to recommended treatment.

We accept cash, personal checks, money orders, and major credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. We generally expect payment when services are provided.

For patients who would prefer to spread out the cost of treatment, financing options are available through Cherry, CareCredit, and Sunbit for qualifying patients.

If your treatment plan involves more comprehensive dental care, we can discuss financial arrangements before treatment begins. If you have questions about cost or coverage, please ask. We want you to understand the financial side of your care before moving forward.

Preparing for Your Appointment

You do not need to do anything complicated before your first visit.

Bring the information needed to complete your medical and dental history, along with your dental insurance details if applicable. It can also help to write down questions or concerns you want to discuss so you don’t forget them when you arrive.

Most importantly, be open about what you need.

If you are nervous, tell us. If cost is a concern, ask about it. If something has been bothering you, or you would like to change something about your smile, bring it up.

Those conversations help us understand what matters to you and how we can make your visit more comfortable.

Start Your Smile Journey

Your first appointment is exactly that: a starting point.

You do not need perfect teeth, a perfect dental history, or a clear idea of what treatment you need before walking through our doors. We’ll start by understanding where your oral health stands, what matters to you, and what makes sense from there.
